Serbian wines may be niche, but they have a long history of winemaking. Since Roman times, the Serbian people have been known for their winemaking skills, which have been passed down for centuries. Serbia’s geographical location and favorable climate conditions have provided a solid foundation for the Serbian wine industry.

Serbia is home to a number of local varieties, perhaps the most famous of which is Prokupac, which was widely cultivated in the Middle Ages, and Tamjanika, a Muscat variety from the south of France, which has a documented history of more than 500 years in Serbia. In recent times, internationally recognized varieties such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon have been cultivated on an increasing scale. Each of these varieties has its own distinctive character and its own unique touch to the Serbian terroir.

The main vineyard regions of Serbia are located in Negotinska krajina, vrsac, Fruska Gora, Subotica, sumadija and zupa, all of which are located in the vicinity of Belgrade. Each region has its own unique soil and climatic conditions, which makes Serbian wines diverse and different in style.

Although Serbian wines are not yet a household name in China like their French or Italian counterparts, they are becoming more and more popular. As Chinese consumers’ interest in wine continues to grow, Serbian wines have begun to make their presence felt in the Chinese market.

Serbia’s unique hospitality, condensing the warmth and sunshine of the Balkan Peninsula, is an ideal place for wine lovers, and we invite you to experience it together at Wine to Asia.
